There is a beautiful world out there for us to see and EYE are our window to the world. They allows us to indulge into the world in all its allure. "Of all the senses, I am sure that sight is the most delightful", the great Helen Keller said these words once, because the importance of sight is emphasized in these words. Yet there are many of us who are unable to enjoy the world in all its glory either because they were born with a visual impairment or an accident caused them to lose their sight. Globally about 285 million people suffer from visual impairment out of which 40 million people are blind. India is home to over 20 percent of the blind population of the world which makes India the world's blindness capital. What is amazing is that many of the causes of blindness are either preventable or treatable; like corneal blindness.
The cornea is the transparent structure in front of the eye. The loss of transparency of the cornea can lead to low vision and blindness. It is estimated that close to 11 million people in India are suffering from corneal blindness. This is where eye donation can play a huge role. Corneal transplantation is currently the only way to treat corneal blindness. It is one of the most successful organ transplants that can be performed on the human body. Each person who donates eyes can give sight to two individuals. Out of the approximately 1 crore deaths that occur in India, if even 1 percent donate their eyes, we could eliminate corneal blindness. Instead of burning or burying such a vital tissue, if it can be donated, it would brighten the life of someone in need. Ananta provides you to donate and immortal your eyes
