CRADLE ROP (Chaithanya Retcam aided Digital-Screening, Laser treatment and Empowerment of ROP care)
ROP stands for Retinopathy of Prematurity. ROP is a disease involving low birth weight premature babies who are often exposed to high oxygen and may develop abnormal blood vessels in the inner layer of the eye, which can lead to blindness if not identified and treated at the right time. CRADLE ROP is a novel and comprehensive ROP screening initiative of Chaithanya Eye Hospital & Research institute supported by the Chaithanya Sight Foundation which uses smart amalgamation of information technology and retinal photography using RETCAM imaging system by medical personnel and trained technicians with a goal of providing ROP screening facilities to all the neonatology and NICU’S in various districts of our state including distant areas where no such facility previously existed.

What is Ocular prosthesis.?
Ocular prosthesis is an artificial eye ,which is implanted in patients who have lost their eye due to various causes such as trauma, surgery, cancer, or in patient with Shrunken damaged eyes (pthisical eyes),congenital absence (anophthalmos) or abnormally small sized eyes. (mimophthalmos) with no visual potential,These conditions result in cosmetic disfigurement of the face which impacts the patients physiologically and acts as a social stigma. Cosmetic rehabilitation for these patients through the implantation of ocular prosthesis help in restoring the patients confidence by improving their External appearance.

SERVICES PROVIDED AT CHAITHANYA OCULAR MICROBIOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Direct microscopy,bacterial,fungal and mycobacterial culture along with antimicrobial sensitivity testing is done routinely from all types of ophthalmic samples such as swabs,scrapings and fluids.
In the near future our molecular diagnostic lab will be coming up with PAN – bacterial and PAN fungal PCR with a battery of other molecular diagnostic cards that will be covering the various types of eye infections
